Joanne Stevens
My intention for creating
work is to visually express or interpret thoughts, emotions and a state of mind. I am concerned with memory, self-analysis
and mental health. I like to create pieces of work that not only fulfill these purposes but that I also find visually appealing
as this is something that has become important to me. I am interested in using things from my past, such as found objects,
images, places and the natural environment as inspiration. I like to find ways of de-personalising my work in order to keep
the work personal and intimate to me, but still available for other people to relate to and make their own interpretations.
I am attempting to create pieces of work that find the balance between a viewer considering emotion but without the work being
too representational of my own experiences.
The medias I use vary
mainly between painting and printing although I am also interested in developing three-dimensional work as it allows more
interaction between the viewer and the work. I feel this helps me to create an experience that evokes emotion; where rather
than looking at an image the viewer can feel the atmosphere created.
